My custom domain won't connect to my website
It is almost always the DNS records. An old record from a previous host is still there, a new record has a typo, or only one of "www" and the bare domain was set up. DNS changes can take a few hours to show, and the padlock (HTTPS) only appears once the domain points to the right place.
What to check
- Open your website builder's domain settings and copy the exact records it asks for. Do not rely on values from a tutorial.
- Find where your DNS is really managed: your registrar, or Cloudflare if your nameservers point there. Edit the records in that place only.
- Delete old A, AAAA and CNAME records for the same name before adding the new ones.
- Set up both the bare domain and "www". They are separate records.
- If you use Cloudflare, switch the records to "DNS only" while the builder verifies the domain.
- Wait. Most changes show within a few hours; some take up to 72.
Hand it over when
- You have changed the records twice and it still fails.
- You are not sure where your DNS is actually managed.
- The site opens but says "not secure", or "www" works and the bare domain does not.
- Email runs on the same domain and you are afraid of breaking it.
Or hand it to E2
Connect my domain to my website
S$8.99, one-time. Typical turnaround: Usually within one working day once records are added. Done means: domain resolves to the site; www and apex both; HTTPS valid.
Something else, or not sure? Tell E2.
Questions people ask
How long should I wait before deciding it is broken?
Give it a few hours. If the builder still cannot verify the domain after a day, something in the records is wrong rather than slow.
Will changing these records break my email?
Not if only the website records are changed (A, AAAA and CNAME for the bare domain and "www"). MX records and the email TXT records must be left alone. E2 checks this before touching anything.
Do I have to give E2 my registrar password?
No. The preferred way is that E2 sends you the exact records and you add them. If you would rather E2 does it, access is used for that session only and is never stored.
Platform notes
- Lovable — Lovable's documentation asks for an A record plus a `_lovable` TXT record for verification, says to remove AAAA records and leftover records from a previous host, and says Cloudflare must be set to "DNS only" while the domain verifies. Connecting a domain needs a paid Lovable plan.
